  Silicon carbide (SiC) is smelted from the quartz sand, petroleum coke (or coke), sawdust (adding salt to produce green silicon carbide) and other raw materials in a resistance furnace at high temperature.It is one of the most widely used and economical non-oxide high-tech refractory materials such as C, N and B, and can be called the corundum or refractory sand. At present, the silicon carbide produced in China is classified into the black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide, both of which are hexagonal crystals. In addition, the silicon carbide is mainly used for abrasive and refractory resistance heating elements.
